Mechowo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Kashubian village in Poland located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Puck poviat, in the Puck commune, on the edge of the Dar\u017clubska Primeval Forest. The first records of Mech\u00f3w date back to the 13th century, when it was a knightly property of Mr. Dar\u017clubie. In 1300 the village became the property of the Oliwa Cistercians. From 1772 under the administration of Prussia, from 1919 it returned to the Polish borders. The main monument in Mech\u00f3w is the half-timbered church from 1742. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the Mech\u00f3w caves are invariably a tourist attraction. This is a great peculiarity in the scale of the entire Central European Lowlands. It was officially discovered in 1818, but the local residents had known about these caves for a long time. They were probably a hiding place, or a place for lovers’ secret trysts, or a hideout for refugees or petty thugs. The cave collapsed several times. Perhaps hunters for alleged treasures were excavating and weakening the cave ceiling? There is an old legend related to the caves of Mechowo, according to which they were a tunnel connecting Mechowo with \u017barnowiec. There was supposed to be a male monastery in Mech\u00f3w, and a female monastery in \u017barnowiec, and the underground route was conducive to meeting in secret corridors. While there is a monastery of the Benedictine Order in \u017barnowiec, there has never been a male monastery in Mech\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They leak through the roofs of the barns and fill puddles to the limit. Water no longer soaks into the soil that is soaked as a sponge. For thousands of years, water has been squeezed through only known nooks and crannies, boring rocks, crying out sand, and depositing silt on the ground of the Mech\u00f3w cave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legend has it that through a secret passage they went to the monastery in \u017barnowiec and the Ice Spirit imprisoned them forever in a tunnel as a punishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
